BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is India’s state-owned telecommunications company with 92 million wireless subscribers and 4.3 million fixed broadband users. Bharat Fiber FTTH plans start at Rs 249 per month for 25 Mbps, making BSNL the most affordable broadband provider in India. About BSNL
BSNL was established on October 1, 2000 by the Government of India. Headquartered in New Delhi, the company provides mobile, fixed-line, broadband, and enterprise services across all Indian states and union territories.
BSNL’s strength lies in rural and remote coverage. The company serves areas where private operators like Jio (467M subscribers) and Airtel (414M subscribers) have limited presence. This includes the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and parts of northeast India.
BSNL is deploying its 4G network using indigenous technology. The rollout started later than private operators but is expanding across Indian states. 5G plans are under development. See how the two providers stack up in our compare with Airtel guide.
Plans and Services
Bharat Fiber FTTH plans start at Rs 249 per month for 25 Mbps in rural areas and Rs 449 per month for 50 Mbps (Spark plan) in urban areas. The Basic OTT plan at Rs 599 delivers 75 Mbps with 4,000 GB data and includes OTT streaming bundles. The Value OTT plan at Rs 799 provides 125 Mbps.
The Premium plan at Rs 1,799 per month offers 300 Mbps with unlimited data and a full OTT bundle. All fibre plans include free voice calling. The first-year discount of Rs 50 per month applies to select plans.
BSNL also offers DSL broadband for areas without fibre, landline telephone services, and enterprise connectivity. Mobile prepaid and postpaid plans cover voice, data, and SMS across the 4G LTE network.
Network Performance
BSNL Bharat Fiber delivers 2 to 15 Mbps on mobile 4G in most areas. Fibre connections perform closer to advertised speeds. Jio’s 4G averages 15 to 40 Mbps, making BSNL noticeably slower on mobile. On fibre, the gap narrows significantly, especially at the 100 Mbps and above tiers.
BSNL’s affordability is its primary advantage. The Rs 249 per month entry plan has no equivalent from private operators. Jio’s cheapest fibre plan starts at Rs 399. For users who need basic broadband at minimum cost, BSNL remains the only option in many areas.
Speed Test Tips
For accurate BSNL mobile speed results, test in an area with strong signal. Close background apps and disable WiFi to measure the mobile connection directly. Speed differs by location, time of day, and network congestion.

Test your BSNL connection
After logging into your router, run a speed test to confirm BSNL is delivering the throughput your plan promises. The widget below uses M-Lab's open NDT7 protocol — see the full speed test page for details on how the measurement works.
