Tata Play Fiber Router Login
192.168.1.1
Tata Play Fiber, formerly Tata Sky Broadband, runs a fibre-to-the-home network using GPON ONT routers that default to 192.168.1.1. This guide covers the login steps, default password, and Wi-Fi setup for Tata Play-supplied hardware.
How to Login to Your Tata Play Fiber Router
Tata Play Fiber, part of the Tata Group, delivers fibre-to-the-home broadband to roughly 500,000 subscribers and reaches plan speeds up to 1 Gbps. The service was called Tata Sky Broadband until the 2022 rebrand to Tata Play. To open the router admin panel, connect to the Tata Play Fiber network and type 192.168.1.1 in your browser.
This is the standard default gateway that most fibre ISPs use, so there is no unusual subnet to remember. If 192.168.1.1 does not respond, confirm you are connected to the Tata Play network rather than mobile data or a neighbouring Wi-Fi.
Enter admin as the username and admin as the password on units that keep the factory default. Tata Play Fiber ships many ONTs with a unique password printed on the label, and the installer sometimes sets a custom credential during setup. Read the sticker on the underside of the device before attempting a reset.
The Tata Play app, used for the broadband and DTH accounts, also exposes connection controls. It is the fastest way to rename the network or change the Wi-Fi password without opening the web panel, which remains the surface for port forwarding and DHCP settings.
Tata Play Fiber Router Models and Default Settings
Tata Play Fiber keeps a consistent GPON hardware set, which makes the defaults predictable across the subscriber base.
| Router Model | Default IP | Username | Password | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nokia GPON ONT | 192.168.1.1 | admin | admin or on label | Most common unit, see Nokia router guide |
| Genexis ONT | 192.168.1.1 | admin | on label | Newer FTTH installs |
The Nokia ONT is a combined fibre terminal and Wi-Fi router. Its built-in radio covers a typical flat; subscribers on the 1 Gbps tier in larger homes usually add a mesh system, because the gigabit plan exceeds what a single ONT radio delivers over distance.
Changing Your Tata Play Fiber Wi-Fi Password
Replace the factory password if your ONT still uses admin, since the default is publicly known. The process takes under a minute.
Log in at 192.168.1.1. Open Wireless or Wi-Fi Settings. You will see separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks on dual-band units.
Change the Network Name (SSID) and update the Password field. Use at least 12 characters. Click Save, then rejoin your devices on the new credential.
The Tata Play app provides the same control from a phone. For menu names on other brands, see our Wi-Fi password change guide.
Using Your Own Router with Tata Play Fiber
Tata Play Fiber allows a personal router behind the supplied ONT.
Steps to connect your own router:
- Ask Tata Play support to set the ONT to bridge mode.
- Set your router’s WAN to PPPoE with your account credentials, or DHCP if the line uses IPoE.
- Change your router’s LAN subnet away from 192.168.1.x, for example to 192.168.20.x.
- Disable the ONT’s Wi-Fi radios through 192.168.1.1 so the two networks do not overlap.
- Restart both devices.
Troubleshooting Tata Play Fiber Router Issues
These are the common Tata Play Fiber router problems and fixes.
- Login page does not load. Type http://192.168.1.1 with the prefix and confirm you are on the Tata Play network. See router login not working for the full sequence.
- Password rejected. The unit likely uses a label password rather than admin. Read the sticker, then reset the router only if the label value also fails.
- Connected but no internet. Power cycle the ONT for 30 seconds and check the fibre cable at the wall terminal. Raise a ticket in the Tata Play app if it does not recover.
- Slow Wi-Fi on the gigabit plan. A single ONT radio cannot carry 1 Gbps across a large home. Test over Ethernet to confirm the line, then add a mesh node.
- Red light on the ONT. A solid red light indicates a fibre fault. Inspect the cable without bending it and report the fault to Tata Play.
Tata Play Fiber competes directly with JioFiber, Airtel Xstream, and ACT Fibernet. For the full provider list, see our India ISP router login guides.
Test your Tata Play Fiber connection
After logging into your router, run a speed test to confirm Tata Play Fiber is delivering the throughput your plan promises. The widget below uses M-Lab's open NDT7 protocol — see the full speed test page for details on how the measurement works.
