Xfinity Router Login

10.0.0.1

Xfinity router login uses 10.0.0.1 on every xFi Gateway from the XB3 through the current XB8 with default username admin and default password password (lowercase). The xFi app on iOS and Android is the primary management channel, and recent Comcast firmware (2025 onward) requires turning on the Admin Tool Access toggle in the app before the web panel at 10.0.0.1 will respond. The WiFi password is separate from the admin password and is printed on the white sticker on the bottom of the gateway. The xFi Gateway rental costs USD 15 per month.

Xfinity is the consumer brand of Comcast Corporation, the largest cable internet provider in the United States with over 32 million broadband subscribers. Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) inherited the cable footprint from decades of acquisitions including AT&T Broadband (2002), Adelphia (2006), and the Time Warner Cable bid that ultimately collapsed into the Charter deal. The Xfinity consumer brand launched in 2010 and now spans 39 states. The service uses DOCSIS 3.1 cable technology over hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) infrastructure. Plans range from 150 Mbps to 2 Gbps in most markets, with select areas offering 10 Gbps over fiber overlay.

Comcast does not manufacture router silicon. The xFi Gateway hardware is OEMed from three primary suppliers: Technicolor (France) builds the current XB7 (CGM4331COM, WiFi 6) and XB8 (CGM4981COM, WiFi 6E). Arris (CommScope) supplied the XB6 (TG3482G, WiFi 5). Cisco supplied the legacy XB3 (DPC3941T). All run Comcast-customized RDK-B (Reference Design Kit, Broadband) firmware and report into Comcast’s back-end over TR-069 for remote management and the xFi app. The xFi platform itself is the management software layer, not the hardware.

How to Login to Your Xfinity xFi Gateway

The default gateway IP is 10.0.0.1 on every xFi Gateway from the XB3 onward. Some legacy units (pre-xFi branding) use 192.168.1.1. The sticker on the bottom of the gateway prints the correct address.

Connect to the xFi Gateway over WiFi or Ethernet. Open a browser and go to http://10.0.0.1. Enter admin as the username and password as the password (both lowercase). The factory defaults apply on every model. The WiFi password is separate from the admin password and is printed on the white sticker on the bottom of the gateway, formatted as two adjective-noun-number words like Coastal-Forest-457.

If the page does not load, this is the most common reason in 2026: starting in 2025, Comcast firmware requires the Admin Tool Access toggle in the xFi app to be turned on before the web panel at 10.0.0.1 will respond. Open the xFi app, go to WiFi then View WiFi Equipment then Advanced Settings, and slide Admin Tool Access to Allow. The change propagates in about 30 seconds. This is a security default. The web admin has not been removed.

If 10.0.0.1 still does not load after enabling Admin Tool Access, see the router login not working guide. The most common other causes are connecting via a phone hotspot instead of the xFi Gateway WiFi, a VPN routing the request away from the local subnet, or a bridge-mode gateway where the admin panel only responds via direct Ethernet to LAN port 1.

xFi Gateway Models: XB6, XB7, XB8

The xFi Gateway lineup covers three current generations across two OEMs. The model you receive depends on your plan tier and your region.

Comcast currently ships the XB7 and XB8 for most new activations. The XB8 supports the 6 GHz WiFi 6E band and the 2.5 Gbps Ethernet LAN port, both of which the XB7 lacks. If you are still on the XB3 or XB6, call 1-800-934-6489 to request a free swap. The swap is free for customers on a current Internet plan. xFi Complete subscribers receive an automatic free upgrade every three years without needing to call.

xFi Pods, xFi Advanced Security, and xFi Complete

The xFi platform extends beyond the gateway itself. Three product tiers sit on top of the base xFi Gateway:

xFi Pods. Mesh extenders that pair with the gateway to fill coverage dead zones in larger homes. Sold as a two-pack (USD 199) or three-pack (USD 299) and managed entirely from the xFi app’s placement wizard. The pods require an active xFi Gateway. They will not pair with bridge-mode gateways or with third-party routers.

xFi Advanced Security. A managed network security service included with xFi Complete or sold standalone. Blocks known-malicious destinations at the gateway level, flags suspicious device behavior, and exposes a per-device security report in the xFi app. Cannot be configured at 10.0.0.1, only in the xFi app.

xFi Complete. A USD 25 per month service tier that bundles the gateway rental, unlimited data, xFi Advanced Security, and a free gateway upgrade every three years. xFi Complete replaces the standard USD 15 per month gateway rental plus the USD 30 per month unlimited data add-on, so it is a discount for customers who would buy both.

The xFi platform is the reason most customers do not need to touch 10.0.0.1 at all. WiFi password changes, parental controls, guest networks, and device pause and resume all live in the xFi app. The web admin panel is reserved for port forwarding, custom DNS, IPv6 configuration, and bridge mode setup.

Using Your Own Router with Xfinity

The xFi Gateway rental is USD 15 per month, or USD 25 per month as part of xFi Complete. You have two options to reduce or avoid the rental fee.

Option 1: Bridge mode. Keep the xFi Gateway as your modem but disable its router functions. Log in at 10.0.0.1. Go to Gateway then At a Glance. Find Bridge Mode and click Enable. Confirm. The gateway reboots in about 90 seconds and stops handling DHCP, NAT, WiFi, and xFi Pods. Connect your own router’s WAN port to LAN port 1 of the xFi Gateway. Your router handles all routing from there.

Bridge mode keeps the gateway rental fee active (the modem half is still rented from Comcast) but lets you use a higher-performance WiFi router downstream. Bridge mode disables the xFi app, xFi Pods, and xFi Advanced Security.

Option 2: Own modem and own router. Return the xFi Gateway entirely. Purchase a DOCSIS 3.1 modem from Comcast’s approved list (Motorola MB8611, Netgear CM2000, Arris S33). Connect your router’s WAN port to the modem’s LAN port. Call 1-800-934-6489 to register the new modem’s MAC address. This eliminates the USD 15 per month rental.

Comcast’s approved-modem list lives at xfinity.com/support/articles/approved-devices. Plans above 1 Gbps require a DOCSIS 3.1 modem with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet LAN port (the Hitron CODA56, Motorola MB8611, or Netgear CM3000 qualify).

Compared to Other US ISP Gateways

The xFi Gateway design is integrated by default. Modem and router live in one box, which is the opposite of the Spectrum approach where modem and router ship as two separate units.

The integrated design simplifies installs (one box, one cable to the wall, one to the LAN) but couples your router refresh cycle to your modem refresh cycle. If you want a WiFi 7 router today, Comcast cannot ship one until the next xFi Gateway generation (the rumored XB9). Spectrum customers can buy a WiFi 7 router today and keep using the free Hitron EN2251 modem.

Cox Communications ships the Panoramic Gateway, which mirrors the xFi Gateway design (integrated, defaults to 192.168.0.1 on most units, managed through the Cox Panoramic app). Verizon Fios ships the Fios Gateway accessible at myfiosgateway.com, which uses fiber instead of cable on 192.168.1.1.

Among the four largest US residential ISPs, Xfinity has the deepest app integration via the xFi platform and the strictest gating on the web admin panel. The Admin Tool Access toggle is unique to Xfinity in 2026.

Common Issues

10.0.0.1 does not load. Check the Admin Tool Access toggle in the xFi app first. This is the dominant cause on 2025 firmware and later. Then confirm you are connected to the xFi Gateway WiFi (not a phone hotspot), disable any VPN, and try http://10.0.0.1 with the full prefix.

Password rejected. Factory defaults are admin / password (both lowercase). On 2025 firmware, the admin password may have been changed at first login. If so, reset the gateway by pressing the recessed button on the back for 15 to 20 seconds. The gateway re-provisions with Comcast (5 to 10 minutes) and admin / password returns to active.

Connected but no internet. Unplug the xFi Gateway, wait 60 seconds, plug it back in. Wait 5 minutes for the DOCSIS connection to fully restore. xFi Gateways take longer to boot than typical routers because they negotiate the cable connection with the headend. Check for outages in the xFi app or at xfinity.com/support/status.

Slow WiFi speeds. Run a speed test at speedtest.net from a wired client connected directly to a LAN port. If wired matches your plan, the WiFi is the bottleneck. The XB6 (WiFi 5 Wave 2) struggles on plans above 600 Mbps. Upgrade to an XB7 or XB8 by calling 1-800-934-6489 or by switching to xFi Complete.

Internet drops frequently. Check for firmware updates in the admin panel. Comcast pushes firmware automatically, but updates sometimes cause temporary instability. Power cycle the gateway by unplugging it for 30 seconds. If drops continue, check the coaxial cable connections and splitters for loose fittings.

xfinitywifi.com is not your home gateway. The hostname xfinitywifi.com is the sign-on page for the public xfinitywifi hotspot service (the secondary SSID broadcast from neighboring xFi Gateways for Comcast subscriber roaming). It is not a route to your own home gateway admin. Your home admin is always at 10.0.0.1.

Xfinity Router FAQ

What is the default IP for an Xfinity router?

Every xFi Gateway from the XB3 through the current XB8 uses 10.0.0.1 as the default gateway IP. Some legacy Cisco DPC3941T and Arris TG1682G units (pre-xFi branding) use 192.168.1.1 instead. The sticker on the bottom of the gateway prints the correct address for your specific unit. The xfinitywifi.com hostname is for the public hotspot sign-on, not the home gateway admin panel.

What is the default Xfinity router password?

The default admin credentials are admin and password (both lowercase) on every xFi Gateway. The WiFi password is separate from the admin password and is printed on the white sticker on the bottom of the gateway, formatted as two adjective-noun-number words. On 2025 firmware Comcast forces a password change at first login, but the post-change password still lives at 10.0.0.1, not at xfinity.com.

Why does 10.0.0.1 not work on my Xfinity gateway?

Starting in 2025, Comcast firmware requires the Admin Tool Access toggle in the xFi app to be turned on before the web panel at 10.0.0.1 will respond. Open the xFi app, go to WiFi, select View WiFi Equipment, open Advanced Settings, and slide Admin Tool Access to Allow. The change takes about 30 seconds to propagate. The 10.0.0.1 admin panel then works as before. This is a security default, not a removal of the web admin.

Does Comcast manufacture xFi Gateway hardware?

No. Xfinity is the consumer brand of Comcast Corporation, an ISP not a router brand. The xFi Gateway hardware is OEMed from Technicolor (XB7 CGM4331COM and XB8 CGM4981COM), Arris / CommScope (XB6 TG3482G), and Cisco (legacy XB3 DPC3941T), then loaded with Comcast firmware. Treat xFi Gateways as gateway units configured for Xfinity Internet rather than as a hardware brand.

What is the difference between the xFi Gateway, xFi Pods, and xFi Complete?

The xFi Gateway is the all-in-one modem-router (one device). xFi Pods are mesh extenders that pair with the Gateway to fill coverage gaps in larger homes, sold as a two-pack or three-pack add-on. xFi Complete is a service tier (USD 25 per month) that bundles the xFi Gateway rental, unlimited data, xFi Advanced Security, and an automatic free Gateway upgrade every three years. xFi Complete replaces the standard USD 15 per month gateway rental plus the USD 30 per month unlimited data add-on, so it is a discount for customers who would buy both.

How do I put my xFi Gateway in bridge mode?

Log in at 10.0.0.1. Go to Gateway then At a Glance. Find the Bridge Mode row and click Enable. Confirm. The gateway reboots in about 90 seconds and stops handling DHCP, NAT, WiFi, and xFi Pods. Connect your own router's WAN port to LAN port 1 of the xFi Gateway. Your router then handles all routing. Bridge mode disables the xFi app, the xFi Pods, and xFi Advanced Security. Keep the gateway in router mode if you rely on those features.

Can I use the xFi app instead of the web interface?

Yes, and Comcast actively pushes customers toward the xFi app on iOS and Android. The app handles WiFi name and WiFi password changes, parental controls (xFi Bedtime), device pause and resume, guest WiFi setup, speed tests, outage reporting, and xFi Pods placement guidance. The web admin panel at 10.0.0.1 is still required for port forwarding, custom DNS, IPv6 settings, and bridge mode configuration since the xFi app does not expose those options.
