Spectrum Router Login

192.168.1.1

Spectrum router login uses 192.168.1.1 on newer Sagemcom Wave 2, Askey WiFi 6, and WiFi 6E models with default username admin and default password password (or the unique 8-character string printed on the back label). Older Sagemcom RAC2V1A units use 192.168.0.1 with admin / admin. The My Spectrum app on iOS and Android is the official management channel and bypasses the web admin panel entirely. The cable modem is included free with every Spectrum Internet plan. The router rental costs USD 5 per month and can be replaced with your own equipment without an activation call.

Spectrum is the consumer brand of Charter Communications, the second-largest cable internet provider in the United States. Charter (NASDAQ: CHTR) inherited the Spectrum brand from the 2016 acquisition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. The service uses DOCSIS cable technology over hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) infrastructure across 41 states. Plans range from 300 Mbps to 1 Gbps in most markets, with select areas offering 2 Gbps and 5 Gbps over fiber overlay. The cable modem is included free with every Spectrum Internet plan. The WiFi router rental costs USD 5 per month for the standard router and USD 7 per month for Advanced WiFi.

Charter does not manufacture router silicon. The hardware shipped under the Spectrum name is OEMed from four primary suppliers: Sagemcom (France) provides the RAC2V1A and Wave 2 routers. Askey (Taiwan) builds the SAC2V1K, SAC2V2S WiFi 6, and RAC2V2R WiFi 6E units. Arris (CommScope) supplies legacy integrated gateways like the TG1672G. Hitron Technologies (Canada) provides the EN2251 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem that anchors the multi-gig plans. The firmware is Spectrum-branded and reports into Charter’s back-end over TR-069 for remote management.

How to Login to Your Spectrum Router

The login method depends on which model Spectrum issued during your install. Each generation uses a different default gateway IP:

  • 192.168.1.1: Sagemcom Wave 2 (RAC2V1S), Askey SAC2V2S WiFi 6, Askey RAC2V2R WiFi 6E. Default credentials are admin / password on older firmware, or the 8-character label-printed admin password on units shipped since 2024.
  • 192.168.0.1: Sagemcom RAC2V1A, Arris TG1672G legacy integrated gateway. Default credentials are admin / admin.
  • 192.168.100.1: Hitron EN2251 cable modem itself (for signal diagnostics). Read-only diagnostic panel, no admin password required.

Check the sticker on the back of your gateway for the exact address. The same sticker prints the default WiFi SSID and WiFi password, which are separate from the admin password used for the web panel. Spectrum firmware shipped since 2024 forces an admin password change at first login. The factory defaults above only apply to older units or units that have been reset.

If the login page does not load, confirm you are connected to the Spectrum gateway and not your phone’s mobile hotspot. Try typing http://192.168.1.1 with the full prefix. The router login not working guide covers the full diagnostic flow.

Spectrum Wave 2, WiFi 6, and WiFi 6E Routers

The current Spectrum router lineup covers three WiFi generations across two OEMs.

Charter currently ships the SAC2V2S and RAC2V2R for new activations. The RAC2V2R supports the 6 GHz WiFi 6E band for plans above 500 Mbps, which is the hardware unlock for the Spectrum Advanced WiFi service tier. If you are still on an older SAC2V1K or RAC2V1A, visit a Spectrum store or call 1-833-267-6094 to request a free swap to a newer unit. The swap is free of charge.

Spectrum Cable Modems and Hitron EN2251

The cable modem is a separate device from the router. It connects to the coaxial wall outlet, terminates the DOCSIS connection, and hands off Ethernet to either the Spectrum WiFi router or your own router. The modem is included free with every Spectrum Internet plan.

Arris TM16023.01 Gbps192.168.100.1

The Hitron EN2251 is the current Spectrum standard for multi-gig plans. The diagnostic panel at 192.168.100.1 (also reachable as hitronhub.home on Hitron units, see the hitronhub.home login URL guide) is read-only and shows downstream signal levels, upstream signal levels, DOCSIS lock status, and event logs. No admin password is required for diagnostics, but the modem cannot be configured by the customer. All routing happens on the Spectrum WiFi router or your own router downstream.

Using Your Own Router with Spectrum

The cable modem is free. The router rental is USD 5 per month for the standard router and USD 7 per month for Advanced WiFi. Using your own router saves USD 60 to USD 84 per year and usually improves WiFi performance.

The steps:

  1. Return the Spectrum WiFi router to a Spectrum store or call to arrange pickup. Keep the free cable modem.
  2. Connect your router’s WAN port to the modem’s LAN port with an Ethernet cable.
  3. Set your router’s WAN to DHCP (automatic IP). No PPPoE. No VLAN tagging.
  4. Power cycle the modem (unplug 30 seconds, replug). Wait for the Online light to go solid.
  5. Power on your router. It pulls a public IPv4 from Charter’s DHCP server within 2 to 3 minutes.

Spectrum does not require an activation call when you swap routers, since the modem holds the registered MAC. If you also replace the modem (any DOCSIS 3.1 unit on Charter’s approved list: Motorola MB8611, Netgear CM2000, Arris S33), call 1-833-267-6094 to register the new modem MAC. The compatible-modem list lives at spectrum.net/support/internet/modem-list.

Compared to Other US ISP Gateways

Spectrum’s gateway design is the most retail-friendly among the four largest US cable ISPs. The cable modem and WiFi router are physically separate, which makes router replacement straightforward.

Xfinity ships an integrated xFi Gateway (modem and router combined in one box) that defaults to 10.0.0.1 and requires bridge mode if you want to use your own router. Cox Communications ships the Panoramic Gateway, which defaults to 192.168.0.1 and integrates modem and router similarly to Xfinity. Verizon Fios ships the Fios Gateway accessible at myfiosgateway.com, which uses fiber instead of cable and operates on 192.168.1.1.

Among the four, Spectrum is the only one where the rental router is genuinely optional with zero penalty, since the free modem accepts any DHCP-mode router downstream without a call to support.

Common Issues

Forgotten admin password. If the admin password has been changed and the original is lost, use the My Spectrum app password-recovery flow under Services then Internet then WiFi Settings. If the app does not work, factory reset the gateway with the recessed button on the back (10 to 15 seconds) and re-login with the label-printed credentials.

Gateway not loading. Confirm you are connected to the Spectrum gateway’s WiFi or LAN, not to a separate router downstream. If you are double-NAT’d (Spectrum gateway plus a personal router), 192.168.1.1 only reaches the Spectrum unit when you connect directly. See the router login not working guide for the full diagnostic.

Login page redirects to spectrum.net. Some Spectrum firmware versions redirect 192.168.1.1 to spectrum.net for account login. This is a known firmware quirk on the RAC2V2R. Disable your phone’s mobile data first, then retry. The redirect does not happen when the gateway is offline from the headend, which is a useful test.

Wrong IP. If 192.168.1.1 does not respond, check whether you have an older Sagemcom RAC2V1A (192.168.0.1) or a legacy Arris TG1672G (192.168.0.1). The sticker on the back is authoritative.

Modem Online light flashing past 20 minutes. This indicates the DOCSIS connection cannot finish negotiating. Check the coax cable for damage. Try a different coax outlet if available. Call 1-833-267-6094 if the issue persists.

Spectrum Router FAQ

What is the default IP for a Spectrum router?

Spectrum routers use 192.168.1.1 on newer models (Sagemcom Wave 2, Askey SAC2V2S, Askey RAC2V2R WiFi 6E). Older Sagemcom RAC2V1A units use 192.168.0.1. Check the sticker on the back of your gateway for the exact address. The cable modem itself is reachable at 192.168.100.1 for signal diagnostics regardless of model.

What is the default Spectrum router password?

On older Sagemcom and Askey routers the default credentials are admin and password (lowercase). On Wave 2, WiFi 6, and WiFi 6E units, the back label prints a unique 8-character admin password that overrides the universal default. The label also lists the default WiFi SSID and WiFi password, which are separate from the admin password. The router forces a password change at first login on firmware from 2024 onward.

Does Charter Communications manufacture Spectrum routers?

No. Spectrum is the consumer brand of Charter Communications, an ISP not a router brand. The hardware shipped under the Spectrum name is OEMed from Sagemcom (French manufacturer), Askey (Taiwanese OEM), Arris (CommScope), and Hitron (cable modems), then loaded with Spectrum firmware. Treat Spectrum routers as gateway units configured for Spectrum Internet rather than as a hardware brand.

How do I login to my Spectrum router?

Connect to the Spectrum gateway over WiFi or Ethernet. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1. Enter admin as the username and password as the password. If those do not work, check the back label for an 8-character unique password printed under WiFi Settings on Wave 2 and newer units. The label-printed password overrides the factory default on firmware shipped since 2024. The My Spectrum app is the official password-recovery fallback if the web login fails.

What is the difference between Spectrum Internet, Spectrum One, and Advanced WiFi?

Spectrum Internet is the base broadband plan, ranging from 300 Mbps to 1 Gbps in most markets with select areas offering 2 Gbps and 5 Gbps over fiber. Spectrum One bundles Internet with mobile and TV at a single price. Advanced WiFi (USD 7 per month) replaces the standard router with a WiFi 6 unit (RAC2V2R) that supports the Spectrum Advanced WiFi features inside the My Spectrum app: security profiles, parental controls, and band steering. The 192.168.1.1 admin panel works the same across all three tiers.

How do I reset my Spectrum router to factory settings?

Locate the recessed reset button on the back of the gateway. Press and hold it with a paperclip or SIM-eject tool for 10 to 15 seconds until the LEDs blink and the unit reboots. Reconfigure the WiFi SSID, WiFi password, and port forwards from scratch after the reset. The factory admin credentials (admin / password on older units, or the label-printed unique password on Wave 2 and newer units) return to active. The cable modem MAC stays registered with Charter, so you do not need to call activation.

Can I use the My Spectrum app instead of the web interface?

Yes. The My Spectrum app on iOS and Android handles WiFi name changes, WiFi password changes, connected-device management, parental controls, and outage status for Spectrum Internet, Spectrum Voice, and Spectrum TV. The Advanced WiFi tier exposes security profiles and per-device pause controls in the app. The web admin panel at 192.168.1.1 is still required for port forwarding, DMZ configuration, custom DNS, and bridge-mode setup since the app does not surface those options.
