Sky Broadband fibre routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway IP address. Older SKYcable cable modems use 192.168.0.1 instead, so check the sticker on your unit if the first address does not load. The service is operated by Sky Cable Corporation, a subsidiary of the Lopez Group (ABS-CBN), and now markets its home broadband as SKY Fiber. How to Login to Your Sky Broadband Router

To access the Sky Broadband router admin panel, connect to your network through Wi-Fi or a LAN cable. Open a browser and type the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. The login page will load within a few seconds.

Enter admin as the username and admin as the password on most fibre routers. Some TP-Link units use a blank password field. Older Hitron cable modems use cusadmin as the username, with the password printed on the label. Check the sticker on the bottom of the device if the default does not work.

The provider offers the mySKY app for account management and bill payment. Full router configuration still happens through the web admin panel, since the app does not expose port forwarding or DHCP settings.

Fibre subscribers typically receive Huawei ONT units, while the older cable footprint ran Hitron and similar DOCSIS gateways. The Huawei HG8145V5 functions as a combined ONT and router with dual-band Wi-Fi. The Hitron CGNM-2250 is a cable modem with built-in Wi-Fi that sits on the 192.168.0.x subnet, which is why some Sky subscribers reach their router at 192.168.0.1 rather than 192.168.1.1. TP-Link units handle routing only and pair with a separate modem.

Changing Your Sky Broadband Wi-Fi Password

Swap the factory Wi-Fi password soon after the technician leaves, since the default ships printed on the unit. The steps below use the Huawei HG8145V5, the fibre router most Sky homes receive.

Log in at 192.168.1.1 with your admin credentials, then open WLAN from the top menu. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks sit under SSID Configuration on the Huawei interface.

Pick the SSID you want to edit. Give it a new name under SSID Name if you like, then type the replacement key into the field Huawei labels WPA PreSharedKey. Aim for a dozen characters at least, and skip anything a neighbour could guess, like a birthday or mobile number.

Save with Apply. Connected gadgets will lose the network and need the new key before they rejoin. Do the same on the other band so the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz keys stay in sync.

Using a Third-Party Router on SKY Fiber

Sky lets you put your own router behind the supplied unit, which is the usual fix for weak coverage or for features the stock firmware lacks.

Steps to connect your own router:

1. Turn off the wireless radios on the Sky-supplied unit from its admin panel so the two devices do not fight over the air.
2. Run an Ethernet cable from your router’s WAN port into any free LAN port on the Sky device.
3. Set the WAN type on your router to DHCP, since the Sky unit already handles the upstream connection.
4. Watch for a subnet clash: a fibre install uses 192.168.1.x and a cable modem uses 192.168.0.x, so move your router’s LAN range off whichever one the Sky device occupies.
5. Reboot both boxes, then confirm the new router pulls an address and reaches the internet.

Fixing Common SKY Fiber Router Problems

A few faults account for most Sky router support calls. Work through them in order before booking a technician.

1. Login page does not load. Check that you are joined to Sky Wi-Fi and not running on mobile data. Enter http://192.168.1.1 with the prefix, or http://192.168.0.1 if you run an older cable modem. A wired LAN connection is steadier than Wi-Fi here. Reset the router only after the address has failed several times.

2. Password rejected. Try a blank password field on TP-Link models. On Hitron cable modems, the username is cusadmin, not admin. Check the router label, since technicians sometimes set a custom password during installation. A factory reset (hold the reset button for 10 to 15 seconds) restores defaults.

3. Connected but no internet. Power cycle the router and modem by unplugging them for 30 seconds each. Restart the modem first, wait two minutes, then power on the router. Contact Sky at 77776 if the issue persists.

4. Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Plug into a LAN port and run a speed test first. A wired result that matches your SKY Fiber plan points the finger at Wi-Fi, not the line.
