192.168.29.1 Router Admin Login

192.168.29.1 is a private IPv4 address in the 192.168.29.0/24 subnet, part of the broader 192.168.0.0/16 range reserved by RFC 1918 for use on local networks. It is the default gateway for every router that Reliance Jio ships to JioFiber subscribers in India. Type the address into a browser while connected to the JioFiber Wi-Fi network and the Jio Centrum Home Gateway admin panel opens. Default credentials are admin and Jiocentrum, with a capital J. The .29.1 choice is deliberate: it sidesteps the 192.168.1.1 subnet that retail-channel brands use, which lets a JioFiber customer plug in their own TP-Link or ASUS router downstream without renumbering anything.

How to Login to 192.168.29.1

Connect your phone or laptop to the JioFiber Wi-Fi network. The SSID and Wi-Fi password are printed on the bottom of the Jio Home Gateway. A wired Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports also works and is more reliable for first-time setup.

Open any browser. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Brave are all fine. In the address bar (not the search bar) type http://192.168.29.1 and press Enter. The leading http:// matters: Jio’s admin panel does not serve HTTPS by default, and a browser that auto-upgrades to HTTPS will fail to load.

The Jio Centrum Home Gateway login screen appears. The username is admin in lowercase. The password is Jiocentrum with a capital J. No spaces, no quotes, no trailing characters. Click Login.

If you land in the admin dashboard, you are done. Newer Jio firmware (rolled out gradually since 2024) immediately prompts you to set a new admin password and a new guest password before letting you reach the dashboard. Pick something at least 12 characters long. Jio’s password policy requires one uppercase, one lowercase, one digit, and one special character.

If the default credentials are rejected, two things are likely. Either the router shipped with a per-device password printed on the back label, or someone (an installer, a previous tenant, the previous owner) already changed it. Default Credentials for JioFiber Routers

The Jio Centrum Home Gateway has shipped in three hardware revisions plus the Nokia G-240W-A used as overflow stock in select circles. Default credentials by model:

The JMR815 is the oldest unit still in the field. It ships with the well-known Jiocentrum password. JMR1140 is the dual-band 802.11ac unit Jio handed out from 2020 onwards. The Wi-Fi 6 Gateway introduced in 2024 only accepts the label-printed password and the JioHome app workflow.

If none of the above unlock the panel, the credentials were changed and the only recovery path is a factory reset. Hold the pinhole reset button on the back of the router for 15 seconds while the unit is powered on. The LEDs cycle, the unit reboots, and the factory password is restored.

What You Can Configure at 192.168.29.1

The admin panel exposes the same router controls you would expect from any consumer router, plus a few Jio-specific bits.

Wi-Fi name and password. Under Wi-Fi Settings, change the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs independently or merge them into one. WPA2-PSK (AES) is the default; WPA3 is available on the Wi-Fi 6 Gateway. For full step-by-step instructions across brands, see the Wi-Fi password change guide.

Connected device list. Devices submenu shows every client on the LAN with hostname, MAC, IP, and current bandwidth. Useful for spotting devices you do not recognise.

Port forwarding. Network Settings > Port Forwarding maps a public WAN port to an internal LAN IP and port. Required if you want to expose a NAS, game server, or security camera externally. Jio assigns a public IPv4 to JioFiber connections on most plans, so port forwarding works without CGNAT complications.

DHCP reservation. Static IP assignments by MAC, useful if you run a print server, a Home Assistant box, or a Synology NAS that you want to reach by the same LAN address every time.

Parental controls. Time-of-day blocks per device. Less capable than ASUS AiProtection or TP-Link HomeShield but adequate for basic schedules.

Firmware update. System > Firmware Upgrade. Jio pushes firmware over the WAN automatically, so this is rarely needed manually. The router firmware update guide covers the full process if you ever need to flash a build by hand.

Guest network. Separate SSID with no LAN-to-LAN visibility. The default guest password is Jiocentrum on older firmware, same as the admin password. Change it.

WPS. Disable it. WPS is the weakest authentication path on any router and Jio leaves it on out of the box.

Routers and ISPs That Use 192.168.29.1

192.168.29.1 is one of the rarest LAN gateways in the consumer router landscape. Outside JioFiber, almost no other manufacturer ships routers on this subnet by default. The reason is that Reliance designed the Jio Centrum Home Gateway in-house and picked the subnet specifically to avoid conflicts with retail-channel routers.

The JioFiber ONT-router is a combined optical network terminal and Wi-Fi router. The fiber line from the street terminates inside the unit, the GPON transceiver decodes the signal, and the integrated router serves it to LAN ports and Wi-Fi clients. Most other ISPs split this into two boxes: an ONT supplied by the ISP and a separate router supplied by the customer. Jio’s all-in-one design is why the LAN gateway is fixed at .29.1 instead of being configurable per installation.

A small number of Indian customers run the Nokia G-240W-A as a Jio gateway. This is an off-the-shelf Nokia ONT that Jio uses where in-house stock is short. The Nokia unit also runs on .29.1 with Jio’s customised firmware, which keeps the customer experience consistent.

Jio’s other consumer hardware uses different IPs. The JioFi mobile hotspot lineup (JioFi M2S, JioFi 6, JMR540) defaults to 192.168.1.1 and accepts the URL jiofi.local.html. The JioAirFiber indoor unit, the 5G fixed-wireless alternative to JioFiber, runs on 192.168.31.1.

Troubleshooting 192.168.29.1 Login Issues

Page does not load at all. Verify you are on the JioFiber Wi-Fi, not mobile data. On Windows, run ipconfig in Command Prompt and look at the Default Gateway value. It should read 192.168.29.1. On macOS, open System Settings > Network > Wi-Fi > Details > TCP/IP. On Linux, run ip route | grep default. If the gateway value is something else, you are on the wrong network.

Page loads but rejects admin / Jiocentrum. Three possibilities. The router has the newer per-device password printed on its label, the credentials were changed previously, or you typed the password with a lowercase j. Re-check the J. If the label password is also rejected, factory reset is the only fix. Hold the pinhole reset button for 15 seconds. All custom Wi-Fi names, passwords, port forwards, and reserved IPs are wiped. Browser shows “this site can’t be reached”. The browser is auto-upgrading the URL to HTTPS. Type the full http://192.168.29.1 with the prefix. If Chrome still upgrades, copy-paste the URL into an incognito window. Some browsers maintain a per-site HSTS list that survives cache clears.

Login page loads but is blank or partially rendered. A browser extension is blocking scripts on the router page. Disable ad blockers, content blockers, and privacy extensions for the .29.1 origin. Try Firefox if you normally use Chrome, or vice versa.

Password change prompt rejects every password. Jio’s policy needs one uppercase, one lowercase, one digit, and one special character, minimum 8 characters. Common rejections come from missing the special character (use !, @, # or $) or reusing the old password.

Factory reset did not restore Jiocentrum. On the Wi-Fi 6 Gateway and the post-2024 JMR1140 firmware, factory reset restores the label-printed per-device password, not Jiocentrum. Check the sticker on the bottom of the unit.

Reached panel but no internet. A red light on the front of the Jio Home Gateway indicates a fiber line issue, not a router issue. The fiber cable from the wall terminal to the gateway may be bent, kinked, or disconnected. Fiber cables fail if their bend radius drops below about 30 mm. Report through the MyJio app or call 198.

192.168.29.1 vs Other Indian ISP Gateways

192.168.29.1 sits in a peculiar position. It is the gateway for the largest broadband provider in the world’s largest internet market (Jio has 467 million subscribers), yet it shows up on almost no other equipment. Every Jio-supplied unit uses it; nobody else does.

The subnet choice is more than housekeeping. Jio runs a CGNAT-free public IPv4 on JioFiber, which means inbound port forwards work as expected. Customers behind ACT or Hathway often hit CGNAT and need to negotiate static IPs. So 192.168.29.1 is also the entry point to a network architecture that is friendlier to self-hosting than most competitors.

If you arrived here typing “192.168.l.l jio fiber” or “192.168.l.l”, you almost certainly meant 192.168.1.1 (with the digit one, not the letter L). The Jio gateway is .29.1, not .1.1.
