How to Login to Your Airtel Router
The login process is the same across the entire Airtel fleet because the LAN subnet does not change by OEM. Open a browser on any device connected to the Airtel gateway:
- 192.168.1.1: Airtel Xstream Fiber Home Gateway and AirFiber 5G CPE. Default credentials are
admin/adminon older units. Nokia G-2425G-A and newer ZTE F670L deployments ship with a per-device password printed on the back label.
The login page displays username and password fields. Enter admin for both on older units. On the Nokia Wi-Fi 6 G-2425G-A and the newer ZTE F670L, check the sticker on the back of the device for the unique password. The unit forces a password change at first login on these newer models.
Some Nokia G-2425G-A firmware revisions reportedly expose an alternate admin URL at 192.168.1.254 with a higher-privilege AdminGPON account. This is provisioning-grade access (line, VLAN, and ONT registration) and is locked down on most retail deployments. Customers should use 192.168.1.1 with the user-grade admin account.
For password resets and basic Wi-Fi changes when the web password is lost, use the Airtel Thanks app on iOS and Android. The app authenticates via your Airtel-registered mobile number and is the official fallback when the web admin password no longer works.
Airtel Xstream Fiber Home Gateway
Xstream Fiber is fibre-to-the-home broadband delivered over a GPON ONT (Gigabit Passive Optical Network, Optical Network Terminal). The Home Gateway sits inside the customer premises and combines the ONT, Wi-Fi access point, and router into one box.
Plans range from ₹499 per month (40 Mbps) to ₹3,999 per month (1 Gbps). Premium plans at ₹999 and above bundle Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Video through the Airtel Black converged-billing product. The Xstream Fiber footprint passes roughly 80 million homes across more than 1,000 Indian cities.

Airtel AirFiber 5G Gateway
AirFiber is 5G fixed wireless access broadband, targeting Indian homes in 9 launch cities where fibre has not yet been laid. The product launched in 2023 and uses Airtel’s 5G Plus network for backhaul. Plans range from ₹599 per month to ₹3,999 per month with bundled OTT on premium tiers.
The AirFiber gateway is a self-installable indoor 5G CPE with built-in Wi-Fi 6. The unit defaults to 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side with admin / admin on older units and a per-device label password on newer firmware. Configuration overlaps with Xstream Fiber (Wi-Fi settings, port forwarding, DHCP, parental controls). The main difference is that AirFiber units expose 5G signal strength, band information, and SIM details in the admin panel.
Using Your Own Router with Airtel Xstream Fiber
Airtel Xstream Fiber permits a downstream router behind the supplied ONT because the ONT handles GPON authentication and presents Ethernet on its LAN ports. The Xstream Fiber service does not enforce PPPoE on the customer side, which means a third-party router only needs DHCP to grab an IP from the ONT.
- Sign in to the Airtel ONT at 192.168.1.1 and locate the Wi-Fi configuration page.
- Turn off the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios on the Airtel ONT so the SSIDs do not collide with your downstream router (recommended on Nokia G-240W-A units where the radio is weaker).
- Patch your router’s WAN port into a free LAN port on the Airtel ONT with a Cat5e or better cable.
- In your router’s setup wizard, pick DHCP as the WAN protocol. The Xstream Fiber install does not require PPPoE credentials or VLAN IDs on the downstream side; the ONT terminates the operator tunnel.
- If your downstream router defaults to the 192.168.1.0/24 range, move it to 192.168.0.0/24, 192.168.2.0/24, or 10.0.0.0/24 to avoid double-NAT collisions with the Airtel gateway.
- Power cycle the Airtel ONT first, wait for the PON light to turn solid green, then boot the downstream router.
Subscribers usually pair Xstream Fiber with the TP-Link Archer AX73, Asus RT-AX55, or a Netgear Nighthawk RAX. Compared to JioFiber, the upstream subnet differs (Airtel 192.168.1.x, Jio 192.168.29.x) but the bridge-mode workaround is the same: leave the ISP unit alone and put the personal router downstream.
Common Issues
Forgotten password. If the admin password has been changed and the original is lost, use the Airtel Thanks app’s Wi-Fi management flow. If the app does not work, factory reset the gateway with the pinhole button (10 to 15 seconds) and re-login with the label-printed credentials on Nokia G-2425G-A and ZTE F670L, or with admin/admin on older Nokia G-240W-A units.
Gateway not loading. Confirm you are on the Airtel network, not mobile data. Type http://192.168.1.1 with the full prefix to avoid browser search redirects. Password rejected. Airtel installation technicians sometimes change the password during setup. Check the back of the router for the label-printed password. On older units, try airtel or the serial number as alternative passwords. A factory reset restores defaults.
Red LOS light. A steady red LOS indicator on the front panel means the ONT is not receiving an upstream optical signal. Inspect the SC/APC connector at the wall outlet and reseat the patch cord. Avoid kinks below the 30 mm bend radius that fibre cables require. Raise a fault through the Airtel Thanks app or call 121 if the LOS stays red after a reseat.
Slow Wi-Fi speeds. Test with a wired LAN connection first. If wired speed matches your plan tier, Wi-Fi is the bottleneck. The Nokia G-240W-A (Wi-Fi 5) has limited range in 2BHK and 3BHK flats. Place the router centrally and use the 5 GHz band for nearby devices. For larger homes, add a mesh system or request a Nokia G-2425G-A swap if you are on a premium plan.
How Airtel Routers Compare to Other Indian ISPs
Airtel’s split-OEM strategy is the opposite of Jio’s. Jio standardised on a single Sercomm-built JMR815/JMR1140 platform across its entire footprint with a non-standard 192.168.29.0/24 LAN subnet. The split-OEM approach gives Airtel sourcing flexibility but means in-field experience varies more by unit.
BSNL FTTH and ACT Fibernet also use 192.168.1.1 on the customer-facing router. Hathway leans on 192.168.0.1 with TP-Link or D-Link retail hardware. Among the four major Indian ISPs, Airtel is the only one that bundles ONT-grade hardware with a Wi-Fi 6 upgrade path (Nokia G-2425G-A) on standard plans.
Airtel assigns CGNAT-free public IPv4 on Gigabit Xstream Fiber plans by default, which means port forwarding works out of the box at the 1 Gbps tier with the Dasan H680GM-A2. Sub-Gigabit plans use CGNAT, which can block inbound port forwarding. Customers needing a static IPv4 on sub-Gigabit plans can request one as a paid add-on through the Airtel Thanks app.
